Pros and cons of Kettlebell Timer Pro app for iPhone and iPad
Kettlebell Timer Pro app good for
ive had many timer apps. i now only use this one. its easy to use and very customizable. ive programmed different timers for different types of workouts. not only with kettlebells.
Kettlebells are a great workout, with tremendous strength and cardio benefits. This timer has all the features to create and execute a solid and varied training program. But what really clinches it for me is the implementation of the randomizer feature.
Pavel T., the "Evil Russian" and popular kettlebell proponent argues in his books and on his web site that to improve physical performance you need to do two things: first, get in the habit of swinging the kettlebell; and second, always train "the same but different". In Pavels words "Why same - because it ensures focussed adaption and makes you less sore. Why different - because variations help to reduce the odds of overuse while keeping the routine the same (spoken in a Russian accent, of course).
Workout intensity and volume must be varied. What happens if you dont? Doing a standard set 5-6 days per week, every week results in body and mind adaptations. You mentally and physically know what to expect - you pace yourself; and after awhile the workout gets boring. When you get bored, you get injured ... and if not injured, your progress slows or stops alltogether and you lose interest.
When randomizing your workout (same but different) your body and mind dont adapt, and you gain in strength and cardio. With previous versions, I programmed seven or eight different presets to change things up - but now, just shake the iPhone and get a whole new workout. With all its rich and varied features the Kettlebell Timer Pro is by far the best and most effective way to manage your training program. If your into kettlebells, or just starting, this app should be your training partner. Highly recommended!!!
The best Kettlebell timer Ive found so far. I love how customizable it is. One of my favorite features is the lead-in timer so you can press "Start" and have time to get into position before the workout begins. Perfect for VO2s and swings, but can also be customized for other combination workouts. Great value for the money!
Some bad moments
I used to like this app a lot, but ever since I upgraded, it no longer works on my iPhone.
This application is amazing. It is easy to use and the tracking is top notch. Ive been using kettlebells for one year now and this timer is breathing more life into my already intense routine. This works amazing for HIIT like Tabata. The only downside with Tabata is it counts the reps you put in it. It would be cool to turn the rep counter off at will. But Im not one to complain. You have to buy this app hands down it is my favorite app on my IPod touch!!!
A+ for this app. Use of this swing timer has definitely improved my workouts. I recommend it for any interval training.
I was new to kettle bells when I purchased the app. It has allowed me to get the most out of my workouts.
I love it!
Great idea. But some of the settings dont work, or at least I cant figure them out. When I edit the presets and change the Rep Mode (to cadence) and Show Rep Counter, nothing happens. No change in the app.
I think the cadence mode is what Im after (I dont count my reps) but I cant be sure. Still...on the right track. I need one of these :)
The app is ok but is still very buggy, when creating a custom workout, if you select both, right or left hands, the display does not display the correct hand, when there is a break, the next exercise should be displayed to give you time to prepare for it.
